Box Score CONWAY, Ark. – An 18-0 run by Central Arkansas late in the second half was too much for the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball squad to overcome Thursday as the Lions fell, 85-71, in a Southland Conference contest at the Farris Center.
Southeastern (9-12, 4-6 Southland), which never trailed in the first half, held a 38-37 lead at halftime. The hot shooting of
Dre Evans helped build an early lead. The senior guard hit a pair of three-pointers, and a jumper, as the Lions jumped out in front 10-2 in the first 2:50. Despite three separate seven-point leads, UCA was able to narrow its deficit to one halfway through the game.
A
Devonte Upson layup at 17:06 of the second half pushed the Lions' lead back to eight, 47-39. Four minutes later the Bears tied the game, but a
JaMichael Hawkins three-pointer put Southeastern back up, 57-54.
UCA (6-15, 3-7 Southland) took its first lead, 61-59, with 10:32 remaining on a jump shot from Daoude Berete. The jumper was part of an 18-0 run by the Bears as they came from three back to sprint out to a 74-59 lead. A three-pointer from
Antonnio Benton, with 5:53 remaining, broke a 6:12 scoring drought by Southeastern.
The Lions cut the deficit to eight, 78-70, with 2:46 remaining on a
Joshua Filmore jumper, but Southeastern could only muster one point in the game's closing minutes.
Benton led the Lions with 18 points, while Evans (16 points) and Hawkins (15 points) also scored in double digits. Upson, who only scored five points, led all players with a career-best 13 rebounds. Southeastern converted 27-of -61 shots from the floor (44.3 percent) and out-rebounded UCA, 37-36.
LaQuentin Miles led all players with 21 points. Three other players, DeShone McClure (15 points), Tirrell Brown (13 points) and (12 points), DuShaun Rice scored in double figures for the Bears. UCA shot 51.8 percent from the floor (29-of-56).
