Lion Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Northwestern State

HAMMOND, La. – A second-half comeback attempt by the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team fell short against Northwestern State Thursday at the University Center.

Southeastern (11-15, 6-9 Southland) trailed Northwestern State (13-13, 9-6 Southland), 38-35, at halftime after leading for most of the first half. The Demons expanded their lead to 17 with 10:36 remaining in the game on a Brison White dunk.

The Lions started cutting away at the 68-51 lead with consecutive baskets by Dre Evans (8:36), Julian Chiera (three pointer, 8:17), Evans (three pointers, 7:48) and Joshua Filmore (7:22). A pair of free throws by Evans (6:44) cut the deficit to 70-66, but the Lions could never catch back up.

Evans poured in a career-high 26 points to lead all scorers.  Chiera also established a career best with 16 points. Devonte Upson added another 13 points and grabbed a game-high six rebounds for the Lions.

White led five Demons, including Zikiteran Woodley (12), DeQuan Hicks (11), Jalan West (11), Gary Stewart (10), in double-figure scoring with 20 points. Woodley hauled in a team-high five rebounds for Northwestern State.

Senior Day will be Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the University Center against SFA (26-2, 15-0 Southland). The men's basketball senior class of Evans, Antonnio Benton, Jeremy Campbell and Jeffrey Ricard will be recognized prior to the men's game.

Saturday will also be Take A Kid to the Game Day at the University Center. Children ages 12 and under will receive free admission with the purchase of a full price adult ticket.
