Lions Look To Continue Streak Against In-State Foes

Southeastern has back-to-back wins against in-state competition

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team will look to extend a two-game win streak against in-state opponents Thursday at the University of New Orleans in the second game of a Southland Conference hoops doubleheader. Tipoff is slated for 7:45 p.m. at Kiefer UNO Lakefront Arena.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone app. Fans can also keep up with the game with live statistics, courtesy UNO, or on LionVision, Southeastern's subscription-based video stream. Southeastern (11-13, 6-7 Southland) swept a pair of games this past week from McNeese State, 62-53, and Nicholls State, 71-66, to snap a three-game conference skid. Included in the losses was a 90-85 loss to the Privateers at the University Center, Jan. 30.

In the previous meeting, 20-point efforts by JaMichael Hawkins (23) and Antonnio Benton (20), as well as a career-high 17 points from freshman Joshua Filmore, was not enough for the Lions to hold off UNO.

Hawkins (13.6 points per game) and Benton (11.8 ppg, 6.5 rebounds) lead the Lions in scoring. Dre Evans (2.8 assists) and Filmore (2.7 apg) have split time at the point directing the Lions' offense.

As a team, the Southeastern is averaging 70.5 points, on 44 percent shooting, and 33.2 rebounds. Opponents are averaging 72.4 points, making the Lions' scoring margin seventh-best in the conference.

Cory Dixon (14.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg) is UNO's leading scorer and the top rebounder in the Southland. As a team, the Privateers are averaging 72.6 points on 43.2 percent shooting. UNO is second in the conference in rebounding with an average of 38.3 boards per contest.

The Privateers (10-11, 7-6 Southland) split a pair of conference games last week. Defeating Nicholls, 70-64, and falling to McNeese, 72-69.
