HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team wraps up a four-match trip this week, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. Southland Conference contest Thursday at Sam Houston State. SLU will follow that match with a 1 p.m. conference contest, Saturday, at Lamar.
Southeastern (9-15, 6-6 Southland) sits in seventh place, one game ahead of Nicholls State in the conference standings. At the end of the regular season the top eight teams will advance to the conference tournament. Sam Houston (16-9, 9-3 Southland) is in third place while Lamar (3-21, 3-9 Southland) is fighting to keep its tournament hopes alive.

The Lady Lions split a pair of conference road matches last week, defeating Nicholls State in five sets before falling at McNeese State.

Parrie Hartley (2.09 kills per set),
Tiffany Thomas (2.08 k/set) and
Mikayla Shippy (8.92 assists per set) are leading the way for Southeastern offensively.
Rachael Bunn is the team leader in blocks (1.05 b/set), ranking fifth in the conference, and
Morgan Todd is fourth in the Southland with 4.99 digs per set.
The Bearkats have won their last four Southland matches.
Deveney Wells-Gibson, a three-time conference player of the week this season, leads both Sam Houston and the Southland with 4.82 kills per set. She is also second in the conference in service aces (0.39 per set). Michelle Griffith, similar to Wells-Gibson, leads both her team and the conference in assists (10.88 per set). Claire Kilpatrick (4.17 d/set) anchors the back row.
Lamar has dropped its last seven matches, all in Southland play.
Courtney Moore is one of the top offensive threats in the conference with a .328 attack percentage (fourth) and an average of 3.27 kills per set (ninth). Ashley Ellis is third in the Southland, dishing out 10.17 assists per set for the Cardinals. Chelsea Grant is tied for the conference lead in blocks (1.28 per set).
Southeastern returns home, Tuesday, to host Nicholls State in the 2014 home finale. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the University Center.
