HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana football team is ranked No. 15 in both the Sports Network FCS Top 25 and the FCS Coaches Poll, which were both released on Monday.
The Lions (6-3, 4-1 Southland) dropped seven spots after being upset by Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin, 27-17, on Saturday. The loss was the first for SLU versus a league opponent since 2012, ending a 14-game winning streak for the Lions. Playing without senior quarterback and Walter Payton Award candidate
Bryan Bennett for the first half, Southeastern fell behind 17-0 and was unable to overcome the deficit.
Southeastern is one of three Southland teams in the TSN poll, along with No. 9 McNeese State and No. 24 Stephen F. Austin. SLU 2014 opponents Central Arkansas, Jacksonville and Lamar are among the teams receiving votes.
In the coaches poll, SLU is joined by McNeese State (No. 8) and SFA (No. 23). UCA is also receiving votes in the poll.
Southeastern will now finally have its first week off of the season. The Lions will then return home to host Houston Baptist on Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The game will be televised on tape delay by the Southeastern Channel (Charter Channel 18) and LionVision subscribers will be able to access a live video stream at LionSports.net.
The contest will also be broadcast live in the Hammond area on the flagship station of Southeastern Football, KSLU-FM (90.9), as well as affiliates and Northshore Broadcasting stations Kajun 107.1 FM (WHMD) and The Highway 104.7 FM (WJSH). The game with HBU will be the annual Hall of Fame game and 2014 Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame inductees Wade Miley and Emilija Arnaudovska will be recognized at halftime.
