HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team fell to the Incarnate Word Cardinals in the first set but took the last three sets, 26-24, 25-15, and 25-23, in the Thursday night Southland Conference match up at the University Center.
Southeastern (8-13, 5-4 Southland) lost the first set with 11 kills and a .135 attack percentage but progressively got better to take the match. The third set brought no errors and a .591 attack percentage as Southeastern finished with a .236 attack percentage for the match.
Incarnate Word (6-17, 2-8 Southland) lost their third straight match thanks to 12 team blocks by Southeastern.
Sarah Friedman led the team with 12 kills and
Rachael Bunn added nine more blocks for Southeastern.
Mikayla Shippy started the third set with a nine point serving streak and racked up 43 assists for the match. Bunn and
Tiffany Thomas,
Veronica Turk and
Landry Bullock each had a hand in five of the Lady Lions' 12 team blocks.
Morgan Todd posted 16 digs for the Lady Lions.
Angelique Vidaurri and Bryaunea Hall led Incarnate Word with 11 and 12 kills for the Cardinals. Madison Wiliams led her team with 19 assists and Taylor McClelland followed behind with 12. Jordan Reifsteck posted 15 digs with help from Brittani Dear and Shaina Garza with 10 digs each.
Southeastern plays at home for Senior Day Saturday at 2 p.m. against Abilene Christian at the University Center.
