Abilene Christian Upends Southeastern In Volleyball

Lady Lions fall to .500 in conference play

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball squad was upended by Abilene Christian in four sets, 25-13, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19, Saturday in Southland Conference play at the University Center.

Southeastern (8-14, 5-5 Southland) entered the Senior Day match looking for its most conference wins since the 2004 season, but ACU (4-19, 2-8 Southland) served up the first nine points in the match and rode the momentum to its second-straight conference victory.

Freshman middle blocker Sarah Friedman led the Lady Lions with 14 kills, marking the third-straight match reaching double digits for the native of Houston, Texas. Mikayla Shippy handed out 27 assists. Morgan Todd led all players with 16 digs while freshman Kacey Freeman chipped in another 11 for Southeastern.

Jennifer Loerch was one of three Wildcats to record a double-double, leading the team with 12 kills and 15 digs. Lexi Mercier added 11 kills and Dorothy Swanson chipped in 10. Swanson recorded a double-double, posting 12 digs. Tucker Smith (11) and Brooke Ray (10) added double-digit digs to the Wildcat defensive effort. Smith also handed out 21 assists for the third ACU double-double.

Southeastern plays its next four matches on the road, opening the stretch Thursday at Nicholls. First serve at Stopher Gym is slated for 6:30 p.m.
