Lady Lions Sweep Past Jackson State

Southeastern grab win in final non-conference game of the season

JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team stepped out of Southland Conference play Thursday, sweeping past Jackson State in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18, at TB Ellis Gym.

Southeastern (5-10) jumped out to 3-0 leads in each of the first two sets, but in both cases Jackson State (3-16) would answer. The Lady Lions never lost the lead in the first set, maintaining a two-to-three point advantage for the bulk of the set.

Jackson State rallied in the second set to take a 5-3 lead before the Lady Lions rattled off five-straight points. Although the score wound up tied nine separate times in the set, Southeastern would not fall behind.

Falling behind to start the third set, Southeastern rallied to tie the score, 7-7, before pulling away down the stretch.

Tiffany Thomas (.294 attack percentage) and Veronica Turk each recorded seven kills. Elizabeth Ramee added six to aid the Lady Lion offense. Mikayla Shippy handed out 27 assists. Rachael Bunn factored in five of Southeastern's nine team blocks. Morgan Todd had 11 digs and Brooke Balser added nine for the Lady Lions.

Mikayla Rolle led all players with eight kills and .375 attack percentage. Jenna Siddiqui's 15 assists paced Jackson State's offensive attack. Rolle and Taija Thomas each had five blocks. The Lady Tigers had 10 total blocks as a team. Simone Ward (13) and Jasmine Knight (12) both recorded double-digit digs for Jackson State.

Southeastern returns to Southland action Saturday, hosting Central Arkansas at the University Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
