HAMMOND – Led by National Special Teams Player of the Year
Xavier Roberson, the Southeastern Louisiana football team placed four players on the 2013 College Sports Journal FCS All-America Teams, which CSJ released on Monday.
Roberson, who was selected one of the first team kick returners, was joined on the first team by junior quarterback
Bryan Bennett. Senior linebacker
Cqulin Hubert and senior place-kicker
Seth Sebastian were honorable mention selections.
Roberson, an Atlanta native, took the top specialist honors after finishing as the national leader with 35.2 yards per kickoff return and three kickoff return touchdowns - a single-season Southland Conference record. Roberson has already set the league career record with five kickoff return touchdowns in his first two seasons.
Bennett, who hails from Granada Hills, Calif., earned national accolades after engineering an offense that averaged 483.3 yards per game. Named the Southland Conference Player of the Year, Bennett threw for 3,165 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also leading the team with 1,046 yards and a single-season school record 16 touchdowns rushing.
Also representing the Southland Conference champions was Hubert, a Houston native and league defensive player of the year. Hubert led the league's top scoring defense, finishing with 90 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.
Rounding out the Lion CSJ All-America contingent was Sebastian, a Lafayette native who pasted the greatest single-season by a kicker. Netting 16 of 18 field goals and making 66 of 67 extra point attempts, he was the first Lion to finish with over 100 points in a season, finishing 2013 with a school record 114 points.
Bennett and Roberson are among the Lions returning to defend the title in 2014. The newest additions to the roster will be announced at the Signing Day Bash, set for 5-8 p.m. at University Place.
