Top Lion Moments of 2012-13: #11 Southeastern Student-Athletes Thrive in the Classroom

Lions, Lady Lions succeed academically

The 2013-14 Southeastern Athletics season will officially begin in early August when the football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams report to campus. In preparation for the upcoming year, LionSports.net takes one last look at the 2012-13 season, counting down the top 13 moments in Southeastern Athletics from the previous year.

The countdown continues with No. 11, as we look back at the academic success of Lion and Lady Lion student-athletes.

In 2012-13, Southeastern Louisiana student-athletes thrived athletically and academically. One of the academic highlights was achieved by softball senior pitcher Kati Morse, who was one of two student-athletes in the nation to receive the prestigious Jim McKay Scholarship. In addition, Lion baseball pitcher Buck Bernard received the Southland Conference's F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship.

In all, Southeastern was third in the league with 169 student-athletes named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. Also in 2012-13, 77 members of the Southeastern Athletics family had degrees conferred during the university's fall and spring commencement ceremonies.
