HAMMOND, La. –
Long considered one of the best baseball facilities in the Southland Conference, as well as the state of Louisiana, Southeastern Louisiana University's Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field recently received some national recognition for being among the best college ballparks in the nation.

Having visited a substantial number of NCAA Division I ballparks over the past two seasons, the staff at StadiumJourney.com ranked Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field as the 16th-best overall. The ranking tabs it as the best in the Southland, second-best in the state and well ahead of several of college baseball's elite programs.

The website's review of Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field called the ballpark "an under-the-radar college baseball mid-major gem" and said it "has the classic elements which provide a great college baseball atmosphere."

"I'm glad to see the rest of the nation taking notice," interim athletics director Jay Artigues said. "'The Pat' is one of the best atmospheres in all of college baseball. You can see from our home record just how tough it is for visiting teams to come to Alumni Field."

Over the years it has provided Southeastern with a sizeable home-field advantage as the Lions have either led, or been second in, the Southland in attendance each of the last seven seasons. During the last five seasons, the Lions have won 104 games at home (.738 winning percentage).

Southeastern's mid-major gem ranked ahead of ballparks at Stanford, North Carolina, Ole Miss, USC, Virginia, Arizona State, Miami, Florida, Southern Miss, Baylor, Alabama, Oregon State, Long Beach State, Fresno State, Houston and Kentucky.

LSU's Alex Box Stadium ranked seventh while Tulane's Greer Field at Turchin Stadium also made the Top-25, coming in at No. 23. Southland members Central Arkansas (No. 51), Lamar (No. 92), Sam Houston State (No. 101), Oral Roberts (No. 123) and Stephen F. Austin (No. 135) all made an appearance on the list as well as incoming member Houston Baptist (No. 99) and former conference schools Texas State (No. 39), UT Arlington (No. 94) and UTSA (No. 121).

A website devoted to reviewing visits to various sports venues, Stadium Journey used the following factors to rank 143 ballparks: food and beverage in the ballpark, overall atmosphere, the neighborhood, the fans, access (which includes parking, traffic, restrooms, and concourses), return on investment, and an "extras" category for any unique or bonus points. We use our official ratings when determining the ranking with "crowd reviews" - those reviews from our members - as our primary tiebreaker.
