Lions And Bears Face Pivotal Series, Oh My!

Two games separate first from seventh place in Southland

CONWAY, Ark. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team faces Central Arkansas Friday at 6 p.m. in the opening game of a pivotal three-game, Southland Conference series at Bear Stadium.

Southeastern (28-17, 11-7 Southland) is one game behind first-place Lamar and Sam Houston State while Central Arkansas (31-11, 10-8 Southland) is tied with Oral Roberts, Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi one game behind the Lions. Heading into the weekend, two games separate first from seventh in the Southland standings.

All three games in the series can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps. Southeastern took two-of-three games in a Southland Conference series this past weekend from A&M-Corpus Christi.

Jameson Fisher (.327), Ben Hernandez (.315) and Harry Slade (.305) lead Southeastern at the plate. Jesse Buratt and Fisher lead the team with 10 doubles while Fisher has also hit a team-high three home runs. Slade leads the team with 30 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.

Southeastern will send sophomore right-hander Andro Cutura (1-2, 5.19) to the hill against Bear senior right-hander Caleb McClanahan (8-3, 1.57) in the opener. Saturday, Lion freshman right-hander Tate Scioneaux (5-1, 3.39) draws left-hander Jeffrey Enloe (7-3, 2.13), a senior from Gonzales, La., at 6:30 p.m. Southeastern has not announced a starting pitcher for the 1 p.m. Sunday finale. Central Arkansas will throw junior right-hander Bryce Biggerstaff (3-2, 3.18).

Forrestt Allday (.368), Michael Marietta (.303) and Jonathan Davis (.293) lead the Bears at the plate. Marietta has a team-best 14 doubles, four home runs and 43 RBIs. Davis and Blake Marchal have each swiped a conference-leading 18 bases in 22 attempts.

Central Arkansas took two-of-three games from McNeese State this past weekend in Southland play.

Neither team has played since their last conference game. Central Arkansas did not have a game scheduled while the Lions were rained out Tuesday at Tulane.

Other series matchups in Southland play this weekend include McNeese State at A&M-Corpus Christi, Nicholls State at Sam Houston, Northwestern State at SFA and Oral Roberts at Lamar.

Southeastern returns to action Tuesday, May 7, at South Alabama. First pitch for the rescheduled game is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
