LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision Friday to McNeese State in a Southland Conference contest at Cowboy Diamond.

For the second-straight night, Southeastern (32-22, 15-11 Southland) entered the sixth inning trailing the Cowboys, 3-1, but this time McNeese pitching kept the Lion bats off balance.

Bryce Kingsley (8-5) won the matchup of the top freshman pitchers in the Southland, tossing his second complete game of the season.

Kingsley and Lion right-hander Tate Scioneaux (6-3) locked horns through four innings, each allowing a run.

The Cowboys took a 1-0 lead in the first on Chayse Marion's one-out, solo home run, his third of the season.

Southeastern tied the game the next chance it had. Harry Slade tripled to right-center field with one out in the second and scored on Jesse Buratt's groundout to third base.

The Lions had multiple hits in both the third and fifth innings off Kingsley, but couldn't break the deadlock.

McNeese took the lead back for good in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and runners at first and second, cleanup hitter Jackson Gooch lined a single to center. Slade charged the ball to set up for a throw to the plate, but the ball rolled under his glove for a two-base error and allowed two runs to score.

Saturday, Southeastern will start senior left-hander Jordan Hymel in the 1 p.m. regular-season finale and the Cowboys will counter with a senior left-hander as well, Jason Gibson (3-1, 4.94). The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps.

Live stats, courtesy McNeese, will be available. Links to audio and stats are located on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net. Mobile links are available at www.LionSports.net/mobile.

First day action at the Southland Conference Tournament is slated for Wednesday at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.

The Lions can be seeded anywhere from fourth to sixth, depending on the outcome of three games Saturday. If Southeastern wins, the Lions will be the fourth seed. A Lion loss, coupled with either a Lamar or Stephen F. Austin win, and Southeastern will be the fifth seed. In either case, the Lions will play Wednesday at 7 p.m.

If both Lamar and SFA win, and Southeastern loses, the Lions will be the sixth seed and play the tournament's opening game Wednesday at 9 a.m.
