Lions Drop Series To Lamar

Southeastern suffers worst loss in five years

Box Score

HAMMOND, La. – The Lamar Cardinals, aided by an eight-run third inning, defeated the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team in seven innings Sunday, 18-1.

Southeastern (22-11, 7-2 Southland) dropped a weekend series for the first time this season as Lamar (24-9, 4-5 Southland) also took the first game of the Southland Conference series.

A 1-1 game through two innings, the Cardinals exploded for eight runs in the third. Lamar knocked five doubles in the inning to power the offensive attack.

The Lions used eight pitchers in the game as the Cardinals scored in every inning except the second.

Lamar starter David Carver (5-2) earned the win, allowing one unearned run in six innings of work. Southeastern starter Jordan Hymel (4-3) suffered his first loss since dropping a 3-1 decision, March 10, at Troy.

It is the most runs the Lions have surrendered since a 19-9 defeat at Northwestern State, May 16, 2009.

Southeastern returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Jackson State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
