Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 22-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide scored six runs in the sixth inning Tuesday to defeat the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team, 9-1.
Scoreless heading into the sixth, the first five innings were played in 55 minutes. Each team had a pair of runners thrown out trying to steal and the Lions had a runner picked off in the first half of the game.
Southeastern (21-9) scored first. With two outs in the sixth,
Aaron Haag just missed hitting his second home run of the season by mere inches. The long drive bounced back into the the field of play off the top of the left-field wall for a double.
Jameson Fisher followed with a single up the middle, his second of the game, to plate Haag.
Freshman left-hander
Kyle Cedotal shut out Alabama (19-11) through 5.2, the longest outing of his career, but walked a batter and gave up a single before Kenny Roberts hit his first home run of the season.
The Lions brought
Logan Riddell in from the bullpen, but the junior hit and walked a batter before yielding the second three-run home run of the inning.
Alabama tacked on three more runs in the seventh.
Southeastern outhit the Crimson Tide 11-8 as
Harry Slade, Haag and Fisher each had a pair of hits. Alabama reliever Mike Oczypok (1-0) earned the win despite allowing one run in one inning of work. Cedotal (4-4) suffered the loss.
The Lions return to action Wednesday at South Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
