Box Score TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts jumped out early with a big third inning Sunday and held on to defeat Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference game, 9-1. With a 6-2 win Friday, the Golden Eagles also won the series.
Southeastern (24-13, 8-4 Southland) maintains a share of first place in the Southland, despite the loss, as Sam Houston State fell 5-1 at Lamar. Wins by Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi create a four-way tie atop the conference standings after four weekends of play.
Four unearned runs in the third was all ORU (11-23, 6-6 Southland) would need. The barrage chased
Andro Cutura (0-1) from his first start of the season.
The Lions would knock a run off the lead in the fifth.
Kyle Cedotal doubled down the left-field line to lead off the inning and scored on
Jameson Fisher's two-out, RBI-single to left.
ORU would come right back in the bottom of the inning and take back a four-run lead as Logan Domenico scored from second on Jose Trevino's single up the middle.
With three runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth, ORU scored at least one run off all four Lions pitchers in the game.
Golden Eagle starter Tim Zufall (4-0) earned the win, allowing one run in eight innings of work. Cutura suffered the loss.
Southeastern returns home to host future conference foe New Orleans (6-31) Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
