THIBODAUX, La. – A mad scramble to the plate by Ben Hernandez, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team's first base-runner in six innings, scored the winning run for the Lions Friday in the 13th inning at Nicholls State.

Hernandez, who led off the inning with a single to right, scored on a passed ball just ahead of the tag by Colonel catcher Chase Garrett as Southeastern (20-8, 5-0 Southland) stayed undeafeated in Southland Conference play with the 3-2, extra-inning victory.

Nicholls (14-14, 1-4 Southland) pitching had retired 16-consecutive Lion hitters heading into the 13th inning. The Colonels had an opportunity to win it in the 12th, but cleanup hitter Brandon Jackson took a called third strike with the bases loaded.

Dylan Hills (2-1) earned the win while Mason Klotz picked up his second save of the series and fourth of the season. Jordan McCoy (1-1) suffered the loss. Southeastern starter Tate Scioneaux did not receive a decision despite tying a career high with nine strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.

Senior left-hander Jordan Hymel (3-2, 3.03) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in the Saturday finale and will be opposed by junior southpaw Taylor Byrd (4-1, 2.92). The series returns to the Southeastern campus with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Fans will have a chance Saturday to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score five or more runs in either game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).

Baseball-themed bingo will also be available at the game, with the first 20 fans to score five-in-a-row winning a prize.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps. Live stats, as well as a live video stream through LionVision, will be available. Links to audio, stats and video are located on the baseball schedule page at  www.LionSports.net.
