TULSA, Okla. – Coming off a dramatic last-second victory at Central Arkansas, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it visits Southland Conference co-leader Oral Roberts at the Mabee Center.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game, which will follow the Southeastern-ORU women's game that begins at 5:30 p.m., will also be televised by the Golden Eagle Network and can be seen on (DirecTV Channel 363) and Fox College Sports Central.
Since an 86-72 loss to ORU (13-8, 8-1 SLC) in the Southland Conference opener for both teams on Jan. 3 in the University Center, Southeastern (8-11, 6-3 SLC) has won six of its last eight games to sit two games behind ORU and co-leader Stephen F. Roosevelt Johnson capped off a career-high tying 28-point performance with a tough jumper in the lane (that was listed as the No. 9 Top Play on ESPN's SportsCenter) with 0.9 seconds remaining.
Johnson, who grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in the contest, finished 10-for-18 from the floor for Southeastern, including connecting on the first two 3-pointers in his career after entering the game 0-for-5 from behind the arc.
Brandon Fortenberry added 14 points and a season-high six assists for Southeastern while
Jeffery Ricard scored 12 points on 6-for-8 aim from the floor. The Lions' 28-for-55 performance from the floor (50.9 percent) was their best since shooting a season-high 58.7 percent (37-for-63) in a win over Louisiana College on Nov. 20.
Fortenberry, who has scored 1,145 points in his career and moved past former Lion Sam Bowie (1,139, 1994-96) for 10th place in school history, leads Southeastern 13.2 points and 2.8 assists per game while ranking second on the team with 4.7 rebounds per contest. Johnson, who leads the Lions with 8.3 rebounds per game, is averaging 12.4 points per game followed by

ORU, which has won five consecutive games and eight of nine in its first year in the Southland Conference, defeated Nicholls State, 90-78, on Thursday behind 25 points from Shawn Glover. Warren Niles added 24 points for the Golden Eagles with Damen Bell-Holter and Korey Billbury adding 15 and 10 respectively.
The Golden Eagles opened the game shooting 16-for-23 from the floor (69.6 percent) in the first half before finishing 33-for-53 (62.3 percent) for the game.
Paced by Niles, the Southland Conference's leading scorer at 19.2 points per game, ORU is averaging 71.1 points per game while ranking second in the league in field goal percentage (46.4 percent) and leading in free throw percentage (75.5 percent). Bell-Holter is next in scoring for the Golden Eagles with 15.2 points and a team-best 9.2 rebounds. Glover (13.9 ppg), Steven Roundtree (9.4) and Billbury (5.6) follow in the scoring column for ORU.
In the first meeting between the schools, Bell-Holter scored 25 of his career-high 35 points in the second half and ORU blistered the nets in the opening 20 minutes shooting 74 percent with 9-for-10 aim from behind the 3-point line. Niles added 18 points for the Golden Eagles, the Southland Conference preseason favorite after playing the previous 15 seasons in the Summit League/Mid-Continent Conference.
