Roberson Named to Walter Camp All-America Team

Sophomore selected top kickoff return man in FCS

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Xavier Roberson added another honor on Wednesday, as the Lion kick returner was named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team.

The All-America honor was the second bestowed on the Atlanta, Ga. native in as many days. On Tuesday, Roberson was named to the FCS ADA All-America squad. Last month, Roberson was named first team All-Southland Conference at both kick returner and all-purpose offensive player. He was the only Southland Conference player to earn Walter Camp All-America accolades.

Roberson led the nation and set new single-season school records with a 35.2 kickoff return average and three kickoff return touchdowns. In just his second season, he has already set a new Southland career record with five kickoff return touchdowns. A first team All-Southland choice at kick returner and all-purpose player, Roberson averaged 113.6 all-purpose yards per game and was second on the team with 10 touchdowns.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American Football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting All-America teams for the Football Bowl and Championship subdivisions.

The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP.
