Southeastern (3-2) continues a grinding non-conference slate with the Mean Green contest. North Texas (4-3) already has wins this season over fellow Southland Conference schools Nicholls State, 92-78, and Incarnate Word, 84-67. The Lions still have matchups with Southeastern Conference powers Arkansas and Mississippi State on the docket before Southland play opens up, Jan. 2, at McNeese State.
JaMichael Hawkins, who leads the Lions in scoring, dropped in 15 points this past Tuesday against the Leathernecks and is averaging just under that amount per contest. The tandem of
Devonte Upson (7.6 rebounds per game) and
Antonnio Benton (9.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) have been up to the physical task of clearing off the boards so far this season.
North Texas, which faced Incarnate Word this past Tuesday, is led offensively by Alzee Williams. A fifth-year senior from Dallas, Texas, Williams is averaging 16 points per game. Last season, he scored 11 points in the Mean Green's 45-40 win over Southeastern.
In last season's matchup, a contest dominated by defense, neither team shot over 30 percent from the floor as the Lions and North Texas combined to hit just 3-of-25 three-point attempts.
Southeastern continues its road trip Tuesday at Arkansas with a 7 p.m. tipoff before returning home to host Southeast Missouri State, Dec. 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the University Center.
