Miley earns win out of Diamondbacks bullpen

Former Lion shortstop Steve Clevenger earned the backup catcher's role out of Spring Training for the 2012 Chicago Cubs
HAMMOND, La. – Former Southeastern Louisiana Lions Wade Miley and Steve Clevenger each earned season-opening spots on a 2012 Major League Baseball roster out of spring training.

Miley, a Loranger native, begins the 2012 season as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen. He earned his first win of the season Sunday over the San Francisco Giants with four innings of hitless, shutout baseball.

Last season, Miley was called up in late August to bolster the Arizona rotation. He made his Major League-debut Aug. 20, 2011 at Atlanta and earned his first big league win at Washington in his second start.

The left-hander compiled a 4-2 record with a 4.50 ERA in eight games, seven starts, during the 2011 season. He worked 40 innings, walking 18 and striking out 25.

At Southeastern, Miley compiled a 20-15 career record from 2006-08.

Clevenger made the Chicago Cubs roster as the backup catcher. In his first action of 2012, he enjoyed a 1-for-3 day at the plate Sunday in the Cubs' 4-3 win over Washington at historic Wrigley Field.

The former Lion shortstop was a late-season call up in 2011. He played in two games and was 1-for-4 at the plate.

A native of Baltimore, Md., Clevenger hit .347 and started every game as a freshman at Southeastern. He transferred to Chipola Junior College after the 2005 season.
