Lions Host Crimson Tide

Southeastern looks to stay perfect against SEC competition this season

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana continues a seven-game homestand Wednesday hosting Alabama of the Southeastern Conference at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9). Live statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net and fans can also follow the game at www.Twitter.com/SLUathletics.

During the game, prizes from game sponsor Champagne Beverage will be raffled off every inning.

The Crimson Tide (13-19) is making its third trip to Southeastern in the last seven seasons and has won both previous contests in Hammond, 5-4 (April 12, 2006) and 10-5 (April 14, 2010). The Lions defeated Alabama last season at the South Alabama Classic, 6-2.

Southeastern (22-11) dropped two-of-three games over the weekend to Central Arkansas. The Lions won the opener, 5-4, but dropped the final two games.

Brock Hebert (.403), Jonathan Pace (.385) and Cody Gougler (.283) lead Southeastern in hitting. Gougler leads the team with two home runs and 28 RBIs. Hebert is second nationally with 28 stolen bases.

The Lions are hitting .267 as a team and the pitching staff has compiled a 3.28 team ERA.

Sean Kennel (0-0, 7.38) will start on the mound for Southeastern. It will be the first career start for the sophomore right-hander from Slidell, La. He will be opposed by right-hander Case Nixon (0-1, 4.35).

Ben Moore (.362), Taylor Dugas (.350) and James Tullidge (.345) lead Alabama in hitting, while Brett Booth leads the team with three home runs and 23 RBIs. The Crimson Tide are hitting .256 as a team and the pitching staff has compiled a 4.83 team ERA.

Alabama, which hosts Alabama-Birmingham Tuesday, has won its last four games after sweeping in-state rival Auburn in a three-game conference series over the weekend.

Southeastern wraps up the homestand with a three-game Southland Conference-series against Texas State April 13-15.
