BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar used a four-run third inning and strong pitching by starter Carter Hahn Sunday to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 4-1.

The Cardinals (10-17, 3-9 Southland) took the final two games of the series after Southeastern won the opener, 2-1.

Southeastern (20-9, 7-5 Southland) scored its lone run in the second inning. Cody Gougler led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by Harry Slade. Gougler took third on a passed ball and scored when Hahn (1-1) was unable to hold onto a throw while covering first base on Brett Hoffman's two-out grounder to first.

Lamar chased Lion starter Josh Janway (2-2) in the third. Jude Vidrine singled to left with one out and then stole second. Seth Dornak drew a walk and Darian Johnson doubled off the left-field wall to drive in Vidrine.

Head coach Jay Artigues went to the bullpen for Kaleb Manuel, but the Cardinals went back to work. Brad Picha doubled off the left-field wall to drive in a pair for the lead, 3-1. Manuel sandwiched a pair of walks around a fielding error to force in the final run of the game.

The Lions brought in Jason Greenleaf to pitch and the right-hander worked out of the bases-loaded, one-out jam with a pair of strikeouts. Greenleaf worked 5.2 scoreless innings, striking out five, to keep the game close.

Hahn picked up the win for the Cardinals and freshman Vernon Maxwell worked the final 1.2 innings to pick up his first save of the season. Janway took the loss for Southeastern.

The Lions travels to Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game against the Ragin Cajuns before returning home Thursday to begin a three-game Southland Conference series against Central Arkansas.
