Lions Travel To Jackson State

Freshman Cutura to make first start

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana wraps up a five-game road trip Tuesday as it travels to Jackson State.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Robert “Bob” Braddy Field. Twitter updates are available by following @SLUathletics.

The Lions (9-2) will send freshman right-hander Andro Cutura (0-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first start. The Pearl River native has worked 4.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just a pair of hits and one walk, while striking out seven.

Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.51 ERA and limited opponents to a .199 batting average in 2012.

Brock Hebert (.432), Jonathan Pace (.378) and Harry Slade (.310) lead the Lions in hitting. Southeastern is hitting .263 as a team. Hebert has a team-high seven doubles and 15 runs scored while Slade leads the club with 11 RBIs.

The Lions set a school record with 10 stolen bases Saturday, defeating Central Michigan 8-1 in Lake Charles, La.

Jackson State (5-6) split a doubleheader Sunday at Mississippi Valley State. The Tigers dropped the first game, 3-2, before coming back with a 10-8 victory in the second game.

Kendall Logan (.421), Charles Epperson (.400) and Glenn Walker (.294) lead the Tigers in hitting. Jackson State is hitting .263 as a team and the pitching staff has compiled a 5.30 ERA.

The Lions return home to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field Wednesday to host Alcorn State in a 6 p.m. game.
