BEAUMONT, Texas – Cody Gougler led off the ninth inning with his second home run of the season and
Stefan Lopez set the Southeastern Louisiana career save record Friday as the Lions defeated Lamar, 2-1.
Lopez allowed an unearned in the ninth, but stranded the potential tying and winning runs for his 10th save of the season and 20th of his career.
Gougler and
Ladd Rhodes had two hits apiece for the Lions and
Jacob Fisher drove in the first run of the game.
In the second inning,
Jonathan Pace and Gougler produced back-to-back singles to open the inning.
Harry Slade moved both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Fisher's ground out to shortstop plated Pace for a 1-0 lead.
Freshman right-hander
Andro Cutura (2-1) and sophomore
Dylan Hills made the lead stand up until Gougler padded the lead in the ninth. Cutura earned his first-career Southland Conference win with five innings of work. Hills tossed three shutout innings, fanning four.
Southeastern (20-7, 7-3 Southland) limited the Cardinals to five hits while the Lions picked up nine off Eric Harrington (0-5). Harrington went the distance for Lamar (8-17, 1-9 Southland).
The Lions will start junior left-hander
