Lions Travel To Lamar For Southland Matchups

Southeastern begins four-game trip

Cody Gougler leads the Lions with 22 RBIs
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana continues Southland Conference play Friday as the Lions travel to Beaumont, Texas, for a three-game series with Lamar.

First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The final two games are slated for Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.), and all three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9). Live statistics, courtesy Lamar, will be available at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (19-7, 6-3 Southland) split its last two games. The Lions dropped a 7-2 decision to the Tulane Green Wave Tuesday before knocking off Alcorn State Wednesday, 12-3. Brock Hebert (19 games) and Jonathan Pace (17 games) each had hitting streaks halted by the Braves.

Hebert continues to lead the Lions and the Southland Conference in several offensive categories, including batting average (.463), hits (44), runs (31), doubles (13) and stolen bases (23).

Pace (.383) and Cody Gougler (.307) are the second and third-leading hitters for Southeastern. Gougler leads the team with 22 RBIs. The Lions are hitting .276 as a team.

The Lions will send freshman right-hander Andro Cutura (1-1, 4.12) to the mound in the series opener. Junior southpaw Jordan Hymel (4-1, 1.80) will start Saturday and senior right-hander Josh Janway (2-1, 2.61) will get the nod on Sunday for Southeastern.

Lamar (8-16, 1-8 Southland) dropped a 17-2 decision at home Tuesday to No. nine-ranked Rice.

Seth Dornak (.295), Brad Picha (.293) and Darian Johnson (.263) lead the Cardinals in hitting. Garrett Autrey leads the team with three home runs and 13 RBIs. Lamar is hitting .246 as a team.

The Cardinals will send junior right-hander Eric Harrington (0-4, 5.40) to the mound Friday to oppose Cutura. Lamar head coach Jim Gilligan has not decided on a starter for Saturday, but junior right-hander Carter Hahn (0-1, 6.75) is slated to start the series finale.

Southeastern travels to Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday before returning home to host Central Arkansas in a three-game conference series Thursday through Saturday.
