Lions Host UT-Arlington In Southland Series

Southeastern Channel to televise game on tape-delayed basis

Jonathan Pace carries a 13-game hitting streak into the game
HAMMOND – After dodging severe weather during the week, Southeastern Louisiana looks to begin a five-game homestand Friday with the opener of a Southland Conference series against UT-Arlington.

First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and live statistics will be available at www.LionSports.net. The game will also be televised on a tape-delayed basis by the Southeastern Channel (Charter Ch. 18, Tangipahoa/St. Tammany).

Raising Cane's is sponsoring the Cane's Challenge for all three games of the weekend series with the Mavericks. Saturday there will Baseball Bingo at the ballpark while Sunday is Little League Day and Academy's Sunday in the Park.

The Lions' mid-week game against Jackson State was washed out by severe weather and has been rescheduled for April 18 at 6 p.m.

Southeastern (15-6) was shut out, 4-0, Sunday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but took the first two games, 13-11 (12 innings) and 3-1, for their first conference series' victory.

Brock Hebert (.450), Jonathan Pace (.355) and Ladd Rhodes (.351) lead Southeastern in hitting. Hebert leads the nation in stolen bases (19), is fourth in doubles (12) and fifth in hits (36). Cody Gougler leads the Lions with 18 RBIs.

Hebert (15 games), Pace (13 games) and Gougler (9 games) all carry significant hitting streaks into the game.

UTA (13-8, 3-3 Southland) also had a mid-week game rained out. The weather responsible for wiping out Southeastern's Wednesday game forced a postponement of the Mavericks Tuesday game at Dallas Baptist.

Last weekend at Lamar, UTA took the first two games of the weekend series before dropping a 4-3 decision in the finale.

Preston Beck (.343), Ryan Walker (.318) and Michael Guerra (.316) leads the Mavericks in hitting. Beck has hit four of the team's seven home runs and also leads the club with 28 RBIs. Walker leads the team with eight stolen bases. UTA is hitting .260 as a team.

Mavericks right-hander Collin Reynolds (3-0, 3.31) will oppose Southeastern freshman right-hander Andro Cutura (1-1, 2.45) Friday evening. Cutura gets the nod in the series' opener after defeating Mississippi State last time out.

Saturday the Lions will start junior left-hander Jordan Hymel (3-1, 2.30) and UTA will counter with right-hander Lance Day (6-0, 2.77), the national leader in wins. Josh Janway (2-1, 2.45) is slated to start Sunday for Southeastern.
