Lions Set To Battle Central Arkansas In Southland Hoops

Lions look for first road win; Bears look to snap 10-game skid

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team looks to bounce back from a last-second loss against Texas State as it travels to Conway, Ark., to face Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas on Saturday at the Farris Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (10-16, 3-10 SLC) dropped a heartbreaking 62-61 decision to Texas State on Wednesday as Brooks Ybarra sank a 16-foot jumper for the game-winner as time expired. The loss was the Lions' fourth of the season, and third at home, by two points or less.

Roosevelt Johnson continued his stellar play of late as he notched his third consecutive double-double against the Bobcats with 18 points and 13 rebounds. In his last three games, Johnson has averaged 19.7 points and 14.7 rebounds per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor and 11-for-13 from the free throw line.

With leading scorer Brandon Fortenberry sidelined since December with a foot injury, Johnson has paced Southeastern in 2011-12 in scoring (11.0) and rebounds (7.9). Elgin Bailey is next in scoring for the Lions at 8.6 points per contest and is second in rebounds at 6.1.

Jeremy Campbell (7.6), Daron Populist (7.4), DeShawn Patterson (5.9) and Todd Nelson (5.9) are next in scoring for Southeastern, which is averaging 59.3 points per game.

Southeastern will face a UCA squad (7-19, 2-11 SLC) that has dropped its last 10 games, including a 75-71 overtime loss to the Lions on Jan. 25 in Hammond. Southeastern rallied from a 16-point deficit in the previous meeting to force overtime as Campbell scored a career-high 19 points in the win while Bailey added 16, including a tip-in with 1.8 seconds remaining to force the extra period.

LaQuentin Miles leads UCA in scoring at 15.2 points per game followed by Jarvis Garner at 10.4 and a team-high 6.1 rebounds. Jordan Harks (8.2), Robert Crawford (8.0), Mark Rutledge (7.5) and Dewan Clayborn (6.4) are next in scoring for the Bears, who average 71.9 points per game.
