HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Brian Bell tossed a pair of second-quarter touchdowns and No. 4-ranked Sam Houston State scored on its first five possessions and defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 70-0, in a Southland Conference game Saturday at Bowers Stadium.
Tim Flanders rushed for 146 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns for SHSU (7-2, 5-1 SLC) and Keyshawn Hill added 132 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter TDs. SHSU built a 42-0 lead at halftime before Flanders scored on a 71-yard run and Chris Grett added a 4-yard TD run.
SHSU went 48 yards on its opening possession as Flanders finished off the seven-play drive with a 14-yard touchdown with 9:00 remaining in the first quarter. Bell, who went 8-for-9 for 170 yards through the air in the opening half before playing the opening series of the second half, kept the drive alive when he hit Richard Sincere on a 22-yard pass on third-and-12 to the SLU 28.
On its next possession, the Bearkats drove 65 yards in nine plays as Sincere scored on a 9-yard run with 2:50 remaining.
The freshman tandem of
Rasheed Harrell and
Xavier Roberson led Southeastern (3-6, 3-2 SLC) on the ground with 55 and 22 yards respectively.
Nathan Stanley completed 11 of 27 passes for 106 yards for the Lions.
