Senior Courtney Donald, playing in the final home match of her career, led Southeastern with 17 kills Saturday against Nicholls State
Box Score

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a four-set, Southland Conference match to Nicholls State Saturday and will head into the conference tournament this coming week as the eighth seed.

Tied after a pair of sets, Nicholls (11-18, 6-12 Southland) claimed the final two for a 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14 victory and the tournament's seventh seed.

Much like the previous meeting between the teams, offense dominated the day. The Colonels (.329 attack percentage) out-hit Southeastern (.212) in the match.

Enjoying the best season offensive season for a Lady Lion (11-18, 5-13 Southland) since the advent of rally scoring, senior Courtney Donald led the Lady Lions with 17 kills.

The first-three sets proved to be highly competitive with at least seven tie scores (12 in the first) in each. In the second set, Morgan Todd (twice) and Jessica Rauch each served off three points in a row for Southeastern.

The Colonels' Jennifer Brandt led all players with 22 kills while Kathryn Stock (15 kills), Sarah Terry (12 kills) and Nancy Taylor (51 assists) factored heavily in the Nicholls attack. Jeanne Logarbo (19), Stock (12) and Brandt (10) contributed dougle-digit digs on the defensive end.

Aiding Donald on offense for the Lady Lions was Veronica Turk (11 kills), senior Tamra Grayson (nine kills) and Rauch (eight kills). Senior Becky Bekelja dished out 43 assists.

On the Southeastern defensive front, Megan McMillin led all players with 19 digs while senior Taylor Buckner (15 digs) and Todd (nine digs) helped lend support along the back row. Turk led all players with five total blocks, including the only two solo blocks of the match.

With the eighth seed in the 2012 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament, Southeastern will face top-seeded Central Arkansas on their home court Friday at 6:30 p.m.

An all-tournament pass for the Southland tournament is $15, while tickets for each day are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Students at Southland Conference schools are admitted free with a valid institutional ID. Tickets are available by calling 501-852-2234 or by visiting www.ucasports.com.

All seven matches of the 2012 tournament, which runs Nov. 16-18 in Conway, Ark., will be streamed live for free on the Southland Conference Digital Network, including the league's official mobile and tablet apps for Apple and Android devices.
