THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a Southland Conference match at Nicholls State Saturday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18.

Shelby Devlin led the way for the Southeastern (5-11, 1-6 Southland). Both recorded nine kills, tying career high in conference action for Devlin.
Nicholls jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set before the Lady Lions called a timeout. The Colonels extended the lead to six, but a pair of kills by Donald helped cut the lead in half. After a Nicholls timeout, the Colonels once again built the lead back up to five and the eventual seven-point margin of victory.
There were 12 tie scores during a tight, second set. A
Cherish Krohn service ace, one of three by Southeastern in the match, tied the score, 10-10. Nicholls and the Lady Lions went back-and-forth on the scoreboard, but the Colonels took the lead for good at 19-18.
In the third and final set, Nicholls recorded its best attack percentage of the day (.393) despite a match-high, four team blocks by Southeastern.
Jennifer Brandt (13 kills) and Nacy Taylor (41 assists, 11 digs) lead the way for Nicholls.
The Lady Lions attack percentage in all three sets was higher than their season average, but Nicholls (.333) outhit Southeastern (.240) in the match.
Becky Bekelja posted 24 assists, joining
Lindsey Young and
Megan McMillin in recording six digs. Freshman
Katie Garrity turned in a team-high seven digs to lead the Lady Lions. Donald and
Veronica Turk each contributed three total blocks, including one solo block apiece.
Southeastern returns home Tuesday to host Grambling State in a 7 p.m. non-conference contest. The match was originally scheduled for Aug. 28, but was postponed because of Hurricane Isaac.
