Southeastern Battles SFA To Wrap Up Five-Game Roadtrip

Lions look to snap four-game losing streak

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team wraps up a five-game roadtrip on Saturday when it visits Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference game at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

Tipoff is at 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (5-7, 0-1 Southland) looks to snap a four-game losing streak that included the Lions' league opener at UT Arlington on Wednesday. Roosevelt Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Southeastern while Jan Petrovcic added 10 points and seven boards.

Johnson leads Southeastern in scoring at 10.3 points per game while Elgin Bailey leads the Lions in rebounds at 8.4. Bailey, a Norco native and Mississippi State transfer, is second on the team in scoring at 8.6 points followed by Daron Populist (7.7), DeShawn Patterson (6.7) and Jeremy Campbell (4.3).

Patterson leads the Lions with 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game while Johnson has blocked a team-high 13 shots.

SFA (7-7, 1-0 Southland) rallied from a 14-point deficit and defeated Texas State, 66-65, on Hal Bateman's 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Lumberjacks trailed for the majority of the game before taking their first lead with 36 seconds remaining on free throws by Bateman, who came off the bench to score 10 points.

Taylor Smith went 9-for-10 from the floor and scored a game-high 19 points as SFA earned its first season-opening conference win on the road since 2003.

Jereal Scott leads the Lumberjacks with 14.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game followed in scoring by Antonio Bostic (10.6) and Smith (7.2).

Southeastern won last year's meeting between the schools, 64-54, in Hammond while SFA leads the all-time series, 24-14.
