Lions Visit Rival Demons In Southland Conference Battle

Southeastern looks to get back in SLC East race

NATCHITOCHES – After rallying from a 16-point deficit in its last game against Central Arkansas, the Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday when it visits rival Northwestern State in a Southland Conference contest at Prather Coliseum.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (8-10, 2-4 SLC) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 75-71 overtime victory over UCA on Wednesday in the University Center, rallying from a 30-14 first half deficit and shooting 71 percent (15-for-21) in the final 25 minutes of play. Jeremy Campbell recorded his fifth consecutive game in double figures, scoring 17 of his career-high 19 points after halftime while Elgin Bailey scored 14 of his career-high 16 in the second half.

Roosevelt Johnson posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Daron Populist added 10 points, including a pair of free throws with 22 seconds remaining in the extra period to help seal the win.

Johnson leads Southeastern in scoring (10.2) and rebounds (7.7) with Bailey averaging 8.9 points, Populist (8.2) and Campbell (6.9). DeShawn Patterson, who dished out 10 assists and added five steals, is averaging 6.2 points for the Lions followed by Todd Nelson (4.5), Quin Cooper (3.7), Antonnio Benton (3.6) and Jan Petrovcic (3.2).

Northwestern State (11-9, 4-2 SLC), which is tied with McNeese State atop the SLC East Division, has won its last two games that included a 74-62 victory over Lamar on Wednesday. Louis Ellis scored a game-high 19 points for the Demons with Shamir Davis adding 17 and William Mosley 16.

Davis leads the Demons in scoring at 14.1 points per game followed by Mosley, who averages a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Ellis averages 10.8 points for Northwestern State, which is 7-1 at home and averages 71.8 points per game on the season.
