Lady Lions Fall To Lamar In Hard Fought Southland Opener

BEAUMONT, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana's Courtney Donald recorded a season-high 15 kills and teammate Kinsey Williams added 11 but Lamar benefited from an impressive performance by Sierra Whittaker to claim a hard-fought 25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 25-18 victory in the Southland Conference opener for both teams Thursday at McDonald Gym.

Whittaker pounded out 18 kills and hit .552 at the net as Lamar (3-13, 1-0 Southland) hit .238 at the net and recorded 8.0 team blocks. Southeastern, which will travel to face McNeese State on Saturday in a 2 p.m. match, fell to 4-14 overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference.

Donald, who finished one kill shy of tying a career-best, hit .250 at the net to lead Southeastern. Williams hit .231 in 26 attempts for the Lady Lions, who finished with a .193 mark for the match, with Paige Dollison adding eight kills and hitting a season-best .538 (8-1-13).

Lindsey Young added 39 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces for Southeastern while Megan McMillin led the Lady Lions with 12 digs with Taylor Buckner adding 10.

Wendy Krell added 11 kills for the Cardinals while Alex Morford recorded 44 assists. Angel Colyar led Lamar with 19 digs and Christina Hobbs collected a match-best four blocks.
