Volleyball Heads East To Compete In USA Jaguar Classic

Southeastern looks to build on first win of season

Megan McMillin is 10th in the Southland Conference with 3.22 digs per set
HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team competes in its second of four regular-season tournaments this weekend when it travels east to compete in the South Alabama Jaguar Classic.

Southeastern (1-3), under first-year coach Geno Frugoli, returns to action after a come-from-behind five-set victory over Jackson State, snapping a 14-match losing streak dating back to last season. The Lady Lions dropped the opening two sets against JSU before rallying behind the play of Kinsey Williams and Courtney Donald.

The Lady Lions will open the weekend on Friday at 1 p.m. against in-state rival Louisiana Tech (1-2) - the first of three straight Friday meetings between the schools in 2011. Southeastern and the Techsters will meet on Sept. 9 in the opening day of the Louisiana Tech Invitational before facing each other on Sept. 16 in the Houston Baptist Husky Classic.

Southeastern will close out the opening day against host South Alabama (0-3) at 7 p.m. before facing Alabama A&M (1-4) at 3 p.m. on Saturday and former Trans America Athletic Conference rival Samford (4-0) at 5.

Williams, the current leader in kills per set (2.57), is hitting .259 at the net and earned All-Tournament honors last weekend at the Mississippi State Maroon Classic. Donald is second on the team in kills per set (2.14) while Lindsey Young, a native of Pelham, Ala., leads the team in assists (5.64) and is 10th in the Southland Conference in hitting percentage (.271).

Defensively, Megan McMillin ranks 10th in the Southland Conference in digs per set (3.22) while Arianne Cruckshank (2.64), Chelsea Barr (2.57) and Young (2.57) are next.
