HAMMOND – Kinsey Williams recorded a career-high 14 kills and Courtney Donald fueled a late surge with four straight kills in the deciding fifth set to lead Southeastern Louisiana past Jackson State, 22-25, 14-25, 25-9, 25-19, 15-12, on Tuesday night at the University Center.

The five-set victory snapped a 14-match losing streak dating back to last season for Southeastern (1-3), which claimed a four-set win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff for its last victory on Oct. 7, 2010 in the neighboring Pennington Student Activity Center.

Paige Dollison added 11 kills for Southeastern, which last won in the University Center on Sept. 23 with a five-set win over McNeese State. Lindsey Young posted a double-double with a season-high 40 assists and 11 digs while Megan McMillin recorded a career-high 20 digs with Taylor Buckner adding 12.

Jackson State (1-3) rallied in the opening set with a 6-1 run that erased a 21-19 deficit. JSU took control in the second set as it hit .407 at the net with Christine Edwards and Chyna Coleman combining for 11 kills.

A kill by Williams in the third opened the floodgates as Southeastern turned a 6-4 lead into a 23-9 advantage. The Lady Lions stayed alive to claim the third set after JSU's Kameron Boggan committed an attack error and LaToya Clark was called for a ball handling error.

Southeastern kept up its momentum in the fourth as freshman Elizabeth Ramee posted a kill, before a bad set by JSU and consecutive kills from Dollison gave the Lady Lions a 20-14 lead.

A pair of bad sets by JSU along with an attack error by Paige Williams gave Southeastern an early 3-0 lead in the final set. The Lady Tigers rallied and took a 6-5 lead when Donisha Dunn blocked an attempt by Kinsey Williams, forcing Southeastern to call timeout.

Coleman added a kill to give JSU a 7-5 lead and the Lady Tigers would build an 11-8 lead on a kill by Paige Williams.

But Donald, who had five kills in the final set, helped Southeastern storm back and take a 12-11 lead. A kill by Edwards tied the final set at 12-12, but Edwards followed with an attempt in the net giving Southeastern the lead for good at 13-12.

A kill by Kinsey Williams and an attack error by Coleman closed out the five-set marathon – the second consecutive five-set match between the schools since last year when Southeastern claimed the 2010 season opener for both teams.

Coleman and Edwards pounded out 16 kills each to lead Jackson State while Paige Williams added 10. Clark tallied 47 assists to lead the Lady Tigers while Daedra Carline had a team-best 14 digs.

Southeastern will return to action beginning Friday when it competes in the South Alabama Jaguar Classic in Mobile. The Lady Lions will open against intra-state rival Louisiana Tech on Friday at 1 p.m. before facing host South Alabama at 7. Southeastern will close out the weekend on Saturday facing Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. and Samford at 5.
