Efferson Picked By Angels In 2011 Major League Baseball Draft

Four-year letterwinner was 2007 selection out of high school by Mets

Brandon Efferson finished his Southeastern career as the school's all-time leader in innings pitched (303.2)
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University pitcher Brandon Efferson became the second Lion in as many days selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft when he was picked in the 37th round on Wednesday by the Los Angeles Angels.

Efferson, who was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school in 2007, posted an 8-5 record with a 3.72 earned run average. The right-hander finished fifth in the Southland Conference in strikeouts (86), opposing batting average (.241), was tied for fifth in wins and was 10th in innings pitched (96.2).

In 53 appearances in his Southeastern career, Efferson won 24 games (one shy of the school record) and while logging a school-record 303.2 innings on the mound. Efferson fanned 235 batters – tied for seventh in school history – and was a second-team All-Southland Conference selection in 2011.

Efferson joins Lion teammate Justin Boudreaux, who was a 14th round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, as Southeastern draftees. Efferson is the seventh Lion – and fifth pitcher – selected in the Major League Baseball Draft since Jay Artigues was named head coach.
