SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of defending Southland Conference champion Texas State Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
The Lady Lions saw late inning rallies fall short in both games and had their three-game winning streak snapped, falling to 14-17 overall and 4-7 in Southland Conference play. Texas State ended a four-game losing streak, improving to 17-18 on the year with a 10-7 mark in league action.
In the opener, senior
Heather Grivas hit her first career home run as a Lady Lion, while senior teammate
Katie Duhe was 2-for-4 in the game with an RBI double. However, Texas State held off Southeastern in a 5-3 victory.
Texas State rode that momentum into the second game, scoring four runs in the first two innings on the way to a 6-4 victory. A grand slam home run by freshman
Megan Moore in the fifth inning cut into a six-run Texas State lead, but that's as close as Southeastern would get. Sophomore
Kelsey Nichols was 3-for-3 for Southeastern, raising her team-high batting average to .402.
The Lady Lions will look to avoid the series sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m. Live stats for the game will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com.

Katie Duhe that cut the lead to 2-1.
Texas State answered in their half of the fifth inning. Emery drew a bases loaded walk to push across one run and later in the inning another score came home on a sacrifice fly by Allyce Rother to put Texas State up, 4-1.
Those insurance runs were needed, as Southeastern rallied back in the top of the sixth inning. After Sheppard drew a one-out walk, Grivas ripped a home run over the centerfield fence to cut the TSU lead to 4-3.
Texas State added a run in its half of the sixth inning. Lindsay Matt reached on a one-out single and then scored on an RBI double by Haley Lemons to put the Bobcats ahead, 5-3. Texas State reliever Crystal Alaniz sat the Lady Lions down in order in the seventh for her fourth save of the season.
Game Two – Texas State 6, Southeastern Louisiana 4

Katie Duhe put a pair of runners on with one out. However, TSU starter Chandler Hall (9-12) retired junior
Katie Matthews and Gomez to keep the Lady Lions off the board.
Texas State took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, as the first four batters of the game reached against Southeastern freshman
Jessie Browne (6-6). After Browne issued a bases loaded walk to McKenzie Baack, sophomore
Kenna Terry replaced her and gave up a two-run single to Hernandez to put the Bobcats up, 3-0.
Texas State added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. A sacrifice fly by Baack forced in another run to put the Bobcats up, 4-0.

Southeastern would not go away quietly though. A double by Nichols, an infield single by
Katie Duhe and a Gomez walk loaded the bases with two out. Moore followed with a grand slam over the left field fence to cut the lead to 6-4. The homer was the first of the Elgin, Texas native's career and the third grand slam hit by a Lady Lion this season.
Southeastern mounted one last threat in the seventh inning. Nichols and
Katie Duhe led off the frame with consecutive singles, but Alaniz left them stranded. She retired Matthews, Gomez and Moore to earn her second save of the day and fifth of the season.
