Lions Visit West Division Leader Texas State In Southland Hoops

Southeastern one of four teams tied for seventh in crowded league race

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to Southland Conference action on Wednesday when it travels to San Marcos, Texas to face West Division leader Texas State at Strahan Coliseum.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Looking to snap a two-game losing streak, Southeastern (12-12, 6-6 SLC) is one of four teams tied for seventh-place (Nicholls, Lamar and UTSA) in the Southland Conference standings. Entering Wednesday's game against Texas State (13-13, 8-4 SLC), the Lions currently hold the No. 8 seed in the 2011 State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament and will close out the regular season with home games against Central Arkansas and Nicholls with a March 2 road game at East Division leader McNeese State.

The Lions dropped a 68-66 overtime decision to UT Arlington on Saturday after shooting a season-low 32.3 percent (20-for-62) in the University Center. David Ndoumba scored 18 points to lead Southeastern with Gary Dixon adding 14 and Brandon Fortenberry 11.

Trent Hutchin, who was held to 1-for-4 from the floor, leads Southeastern in scoring at 15.5 points per game followed by Fortenberry (11.5), Ndoumba (10.5) and Dixon (9.4). Deshawn Patterson (6.2), Roosevelt Johnson (5.4), Jason Marks (5.1) and Rodney Jones (4.9) are next in scoring for the Lions, who average 70.4 points while allowing 69.5.

Texas State has won six of its last eight games overall and eight consecutive games at home, dropped a 73-70 overtime decision at Stephen F. Austin to snap a five-game winning streak.

The Bobcats, who are second in the Southland Conference in scoring (78.2 points per game), are led by Cameron Johnson at 13.2 points per game followed by Tony Bishop (11.8), Ryan White (10.5) and Eddie Rios (9.5).
