Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Rashad Madden came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points and Arkansas used a 12-0 run in the final minutes of the first half to erase a five-point deficit and defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 62-55, on Saturday at Bud Walton Arena.
Devonta Abron, Mardracus Wade and Rickey Scott scored eight points each as Arkansas (6-3) erased a 28-23 deficit and built a 35-30 lead at halftime over Southeastern (5-4).
Southeastern, which was playing without leading scorer
Brandon Fortenberry, snapped a 22-22 tie on a pair of free throws by
Todd Nelson with 4:57 left in the first half before
Elgin Bailey scored on a layup and
Onochie Ochie converted an alley-oop dunk off a steal by
DeShawn Patterson.
Arkansas responded as Madden opened the run with two free throws and Scott followed with a basket to cut the lead to 28-27. After a steal by Julysses Nobles, B.J. Young gave Arkansas the lead for good at 29-28 with 3:00 remaining in the half before the Razorbacks built their lead to 35-28 on a layup by Young with 38 seconds left.
A jumper by Madden with 4:30 remaining in the contest gave Arkansas a 60-50 lead and Southeastern got as close as 60-55 on a 3-pointer by Patterson with 33 seconds left.
Bailey, in his second game for the Lions after transferring from Mississippi State, posted a double-double with a game-high 12 points and 12 rebounds. Patterson added 11 points for the Lions while LSU transfer
Daron Populist added 11 points.
Southeastern will return to action on Wednesday when it visits its second SEC member – South Carolina (4-6) – in a 6 p.m. CST contest in Columbia, S.C.
