Lions Visit Arkansas To Open Five-Game Roadtrip

Southeastern can tie NCAA record with fourth straight overtime game

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team opens a five-game roadtrip on Saturday when it visits Southeastern Conference member Arkansas at Bud Walton Arena.

Tipoff is at 2 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (5-3) begins its most rugged stretch of games this season beginning with Arkansas (5-3) before visiting South Carolina on Dec. 21 and Texas Tech on Dec. 30. The Lions, who are 0-3 away from the University Center this season, will conclude the trip when they open Southland Conference play against UT Arlington on Jan. 4 and Stephen F Austin on Jan. 7.

The Lions have played in three consecutive overtime contests – one off the NCAA record last set by Dayton in 1988. Southeastern is 2-1 in that stretch with wins over Louisiana Tech and Southern and a 63-61 loss at Southeast Missouri on Dec. 3.

Brandon Fortenberry leads Southeastern in scoring at 17.6 points per game followed by Roosevelt Johnson (12.3), Daron Populist (8.3), DeShawn Patterson (7.6) and Elgin Bailey (7.0).

Bailey, a Mississippi State transfer, grabbed nine rebounds in his Southeastern debut against Southern on Monday. Johnson is averaging 8.1 rebounds for the Lions followed by Jan Petrovcic with 5.0.

Arkansas, which is 5-1 at home this season, looks to snap a two-game losing streak that included losses to defending national champion Connecticut and Oklahoma. The Razorbacks have posted wins over South Carolina-Upstate, Oakland, Utah Valley, Grambling and Mississippi Valley.

B.J. Young leads Arkansas in scoring at 16.5 points per game with Mardracus Wade next at 10.9. Julysses Nobles (9.5), Ricky Scott (8.8) and Rashad Madden (7.4) are next in scoring for Arkansas with Devonta Abron pulling down a team-high 5.1 rebounds per contest.
