Southeastern, Louisiana Tech To Renew Hardwood Rivalry

First meeting between the schools since 1991-92 season

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team resumes one of its longest rivalries on Wednesday when the Lions host in-state foe Louisiana Tech at the University Center.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. The game will also be televised on a tape-delayed basis on the Southeastern Channel (Charter Cable Channel 18) in Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, Livingston, and St. Helena Parishes and (Charter Cable Channel 17) in Washington Parish.

Southeastern (3-2) returns to action after falling at Sun Belt Conference power Western Kentucky, 72-67, on Saturday. An 11-0 run by the Hilltoppers in the final minutes of the first half gave the host team a 40-30 lead at intermission before a Lion rally in the second half fell short.

Jeremy Campbell scored a career-high 17 points to lead Southeastern while Jan Petrovcic and Brandon Fortenberry scored 10 points each.

Fortenberry leads Southeastern in scoring at 17.8 points per game with Roosevelt Johnson next at 11.2. Daron Populist (9.0), DeShawn Patterson (5.0), Campbell (5.0), Quin Cooper (4.8) and Donovan Ross (4.7) are next in scoring for the Lions, who are 3-0 at home this season.

The game against Louisiana Tech (2-3) will mark the first meeting between the schools on the hardwood since the Bulldogs claimed a 92-69 decision in Ruston on Dec. 21, 1991. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series (dating back to the Lions' 1947-48 season), 35-17.

Trevor Gaskins leads Louisiana Tech with 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Cordarius Johnson is next in scoring for the Bulldogs at 11.6 with Lonnie Smith (8.0), Kenyon McNeail (6.8), Michale Kyser (6.6) and JL Lewis (6.2) following.

The Bulldogs opened the season for first-year coach Michael White with a 92-70 win over Mississippi College and earned a 73-54 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the Jim Thorpe Classic in Laramie, Wyo. Louisiana Tech dropped a 68-61 decision at UT Arlington on Nov. 19 and has dropped its last two contests, a 66-48 loss to Portland State and a 73-58 setback against host Wyoming on Sunday.

The game against Louisiana Tech will also feature a halftime performance by ACRODUNK Extreme Dunkers, who will use their unique blend of acrobatics, dunking and humor as seen on NBC's America's Got Talent.

Wednesday's game will also the second game of a week-long canned food drive to benefit the Tangi Food Pantry sponsored by the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. For every canned food item donated, fans will receive an entry in a drawing for a Southeastern prize pack, which includes two Top Cat seats for the game of the winner's choosing. Canned goods will be collected at Wednesday's game, as well as Sunday's women's basketball game with Spring Hill at 3 p.m.
