Southeastern Travels North To Face League Rival Central Arkansas

Lions look to spoil homecoming with win on purple and gray turf.

CONWAY, Ark. - Coming off an impressive 38-28 victory over Texas State last week at Strawberry Stadium, the Southeastern Louisiana University football team returns to Southland Conference play on Saturday when it travels to face Central Arkansas at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. Live statistics and live video, courtesy of UCA, is also available at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (2-5, 0-3 SLC)) gained 496 yards of total offense and pulled away from a 21-21 tie at halftime to pull away and win its third straight game over Texas State. Rreserve running back Latruan Weary scored a career-high three touchdowns on the ground for the Lions while Simmie Yarborough caught five passes for 79 yards in becoming Southeastern's all-time leader in receiving yards (2,417) to add to his school records for catches (202) and receiving touchdowns (29).

Brian Young completed 26 of 44 passes for 349 yards with Kory Theodore catching seven passes for 100 yards with Brandon Collins adding five receptions for 82 yards.

The Lions also forced a pair of turnovers as Frank Bryant and freshman Parris Stewart each forced fumbles while Southeastern took care of the football after committing a combined 10 turnovers in its previous two games.

Young has completed 139 of 246 passes for 1,836 yards and eight touchdowns for the Lions with Collins (39-544-5) leading the team in receptions and touchdowns. Theodore (35-493-1) and Yarborough (34-415-2) are next in receptions for Southeastern, which ranks eighth among FCS schools in passing offense (306.4) and 14th in total offense (430.1).

Tay Alford leads Southeastern with 57 tackles on the season with Ricky Irvin (55 tackles) and Tyler Stoddard (47 tackles) next.

UCA (5-3, 4-1 SLC) has won its last five games - the longest win streak by the Bears since joining the Southland Conference in 2007. After a 53-24 loss at Arkansas State on Sept. 24, UCA has posted wins over Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls State, McNeese State and Lamar.

The Bears will celebrate homecoming for the first time on its new purple and gray turf that was installed after spring practice. UCA is 10-1 all-time in homecomig games under head coach Clint Conque, including a 30-23 win over the Lions last season.

UCA leads the all-time series, 3-1, and has won the previous two meetings in Conway. All four games in the series have been decided by a combined 22 points with UCA claiming both of its wins at home by a touchdown (28-21 in 2008 and 30-23 in 2010).
