Southeastern Rally Falls Short In 62-59 Loss At UCA

CONWAY, Ark. – Tadre Sheppard made four free throws in the final 38.9 seconds and Central Arkansas rallied from a five-point deficit and defeated Southeastern Louisiana,62-59, on Wednesday at the Farris Center.

Mike Pouncy and Imad Qahwash scored 13 points each for UCA (5-14, 1-5 Southland), which built a 29-13 lead in the first half and led 35-28 at the break. Mark Rutledge added nine points for the Bears while Terry Tidwell pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Southeastern (8-9, 2-3 Southland) snapped a 50-50 deadlock on a basket by Deshawn Patterson before a free throw by David Ndoumba and dunk by Rodney Jones gave the Lions a 55-50 lead with 7:41 left.

The Lions scored two baskets the remainder of the game as UCA closed out the contest with a 12-4 run. Sheppard gave UCA the lead for good, 60-59, with two free throws with 38.9 seconds left before sinking two more with 6.1 seconds left after Patterson missed a jumper in the lane.

Southeastern, which went 0-for-12 from behind the 3-point line, had a chance to tie the game, but a 3-pointer by Trent Hutchin bounced off the rim.

Hutchin led Southeastern with 12 points while Ndoumba added 10 and a game-high eight rebounds. Patterson added eight points for Southeastern while freshman Antonnio Benton added seven and Michael Harrel six.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday when it will play host to Northwestern State in a 7:30 p.m. contest at the University Center. Tickets are available by calling the Southeatsern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466.
