Lions Drop Tough Road Contest Against Islanders, 62-59

Southeastern returns home to host McNeese for Jam the Jungle

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Horace Bond snapped a 57-57 tie with 29 seconds remaining and Hollis Hill sealed the win with a pair of free throws as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off Southeastern Louisiana, 62-59, in a Southland Conference contest at American Bank Center.

Demond Watt scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead TAMU-CC (6-11, 1-2 Southland), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Chris Mast added 10 points for the Islanders while Justin Reynolds added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Southeastern's Brandon Fortenberry tied the game at 57-57 with a 3-pointer with 1:02 remaining before Bond, who was 2-for-12 from behind the 3-point line, gave the Islanders the lead for good. The Lions closed the gap to 60-59 after David Ndoumba scored on a short basket before Hill entered the game, was fouled and hit both free throws for the final margin.

Fortenberry had a chance to send the game to overtime, but his 23-foot jumper at the buzzer fell off the iron.

AMCC took a 30-26 lead at halftime before Southeastern rallied behind the shooting of Trent Hutchin. The senior scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the second half to lead Southeastern (7-7, 1-1 Southland).

Ndoumba added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds for Southeastern, which finished 23-for-50 (46 percent) for the game. Deshawn Patterson dished out seven assists for the Lions while Fortenberry added nine points and five assists.

Southeastern will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts McNeese State in a 7 p.m. contest in the University Center. Tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466.
