HAMMOND –
Three former Southeastern Louisiana University football players will be participating in training camp when the Arena Football League's New Orleans VooDoo returns to action for the 2011 season.

Former Lion receivers Chris Wilson and Hutch Gonzales along with defensive back Brian Reynolds are part of the VooDoo's 35-man roster that will open training camp on Feb. 20 with the season opener scheduled for March 11 in New Orleans Arena.

Gonzales, a Covington native and three-year letterwinner for Southeastern from 2003-05, caught 135 passes in his career (sixth in school history), including 50 receptions during the Lions' inaugural 2003 campaign. A second-team All-Southland Conference selection in 2005, Gonzales caught 37 passes for 601 yards and six touchdowns.

Gonzales attended the team's first open tryout at John Curtis Christian High School and his signing marks the fourth player the VooDoo have inked from a pair of open tryouts.

“We have a lot of very talented guys to pick from in our own backyard,” said VooDoo head coach Derek Stingley after Gonzales' signing. “I look for Hutch Gonzales, along with the other 34 guys, to compete for a spot on this team when training camp starts.”

Wilson, a two-year letterwinner for Southeastern from 2008-09, ranks 10th in school history with 83 receptions and 1,237 yards and is fourth with 15 touchdowns. Wilson caught 51 passes for 740 yards in his first year with the Lions in 2008 and earned honorable mention All-Southland Conference honors in 2009 after catching 32 passes with seven TDs.

Reynolds, a two-year letterwinner for the Lions from 2008-09, totaled 88 tackles in his career including a career-high 48 stops with eight tackles for loss as a senior. Reynolds played in 23 games during his two-year career at Southeastern, registering four sacks and blocking three kicks.

Of the 35 players on the roster, 20 are from the state of Louisiana with 14 playing collegiate football in the state.
