Lady Lions Travel To Face SLC East Rivals UCA, Northwestern State

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Conway, Ark., to face defending Southland Conference regular-season champion Central Arkansas in a 7 p.m. contest at the Prince Center.

After facing UCA (12-6, 3-0 Southland) in its second league match on the road, Southeastern (9-10, 1-2 Southland) will return to action on Saturday when it battles in-state rival Northwestern State (9-6, 1-2 Southland) in a 7 p.m. match at Prather Coliseum.

Southeastern returns to action after earning a split last weekend against visiting McNeese State and Lamar. The Lady Lions withstood a late rally by McNeese State to win a five-set contest last Thursday before falling in three sets to Lamar last Saturday.

Allison Jones has been Southeastern's top performer at the net averaging 2.58 kills per set while hitting .201 on the season. Taylor Buckner (2.19 kills per set), Courtney Donald (1.95), Cherish Krohn (1.77) and Stephanie Mueller (1.53) are next in kills per set for Southeastern with Mueller pacing the team with a .221 hitting percentage.

Arianne Cruckshank, who moved into sixth place in school history with 1,219 assists, is averaging 7.82 assists per set to lead Southeastern followed by freshman Lindsey Young with 7.75. Senior Alex Greer leads the Lady Lions with 3.33 digs per set followed by Chelsea Barr (3.23), Cruckshank (2.09), Young (1.88) and Paige Dollison (1.85).

UCA will look to extend its 25-match winning streak in Southland Conference play along with 22 straight victories at home. The Sugar Bears have won their last six matches, including a three-set win over North Dakota State on Monday.

Jessica Hays leads UCA with 3.52 kills per set with Chloe Smith next at 3.23. Taylor Hammonds (2.21) and Jessica Nagy (2.15) are next in kills per set for the Sugar Bears with Marissa Collins dishing out 10.82 assists per set.

Defensively, Cristin Curl leads UCA with 4.55 digs per set while Hammonds and Nagy pace the team with 0.87 and 0.82 blocks per set respectively.

Northwestern State is led on offense by Kourtney Adams with 2.65 kills per set followed by Taylor Deering (2.29) and Laranda Spann (2.24). Lauren Peltier paces the Demons with 7.25 assists per set with Sarah Gillis averaging a team-high 3.04 digs per set and Spann an impressive 1.22 blocks per set.
