RUSTON – Southeastern Louisiana freshman
Cherish Krohn tallied 20 kills on the day, as the Lady Lions took three-set wins over in-state rivals Grambling and Centenary on the final day of the Lady Techster Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Assembly Center.
In the opening match of the day, Southeastern (7-5) took a 25-15, 25-12, 25-17 victory over Grambling (0-6). Later in the afternoon, the Lady Lions made short work of Centenary, finishing with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-10 win to close out the tournament on a strong note.
Southeastern hit .202 and used a balanced attack to defeat the Lady Tigers in the opening match. Junior
Paige Dollison led the way with seven kills, while Krohn, freshman
Stephanie Mueller and senior
Allison Jones each tallied six winners.
Freshman
Lindsey Young led the way with 28 assists, while junior
Chelsea Barr was credited with a team-high eight digs. Southeastern held Grambling to a -.069 hitting percentage, though Lady Tiger April Johnson tied for match-high honors with seven kills.
Southeastern was slightly more efficient in the second match of the day, hitting .204 on the way to the sweep of Centenary. Krohn (14 kills) and Jones (13 kills) led the way offensively for the Lady Lions. Young posted 29 assists and posted a double-double with 10 digs.
The Lady Lions forced Centenary into a -.082 hitting percentage for the match, including a -.379 showing in the third set. Southeastern totaled seven team blocks, as Young and sophomore
Courtney Donald each were credited with three block assists and Dollison notched a solo block and two block assists. Barr led the team with a match-high 13 digs.
After opening the season with 12 consecutive road matches, Southeastern will open its 2010 home schedule on Tuesday, hosting South Alabama at 7 p.m. in the University Center.
