NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Freshman
Brock Hebert hit a two-out, two-run single in the fourth inning that led to eight answered runs and Southeastern Louisiana tied a single-season school-record with its 38th victory over the season in a 10-6 win over Stephen F. Austin Saturday afternoon at Jaycees Field.
The win for Southeastern (38-14, 20-9 Southland) equaled the record last set in 1993 (38-17) and first established the previous year (38-22). Southeastern, which won its seventh consecutive league game, moved to within one game of leader Texas State – a 7-3 loser at Nicholls State – in the Southland Conference standings.

Jordan Hymel (7-1, 4.70 ERA) to the mound with SFA countering with right-hander Justin Braddock (5-3, 5.06 ERA).
Southeastern took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Cody Gougler hit a two-out double past SFA right-fielder Bo Coffman, allowing
Jeff Harkensee to score.
SFA (32-16, 18-10 Southland) scored three runs in the third inning as Michael Haynes tied the game with an RBI single and Bobby Loveless later followed with a two-run single.
The Lions tied the game in the fourth inning after loading the bases with two outs against SFA starter Brad Oates (2-2). Gougler drew a one-one walk before advancing to second on a single by
Joe Sparacino.
Chris Ernest was hit by a pitch two batters later to load the bases before Hebert tied the game with a two-run single down the right-field line.
Sparacino, who went 2-for-4, gave Southeastern the lead for good in the fifth when his two-out single scored
Cass Hargis.
Josh Cryer followed with an RBI single that scored Gougler, who beat out a throw at first on a potential double play, and gave the Lions a 5-3 lead.
Southeastern added three more runs in the sixth as
Justin Boudreaux hit a two-run single, stole second and scored on a two-out error.
Trey Martin added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and
Alex Marse scored an insurance run in the ninth on a double-play grounder.
Chris Franklin (8-4) scattered 10 hits and allowed six runs in seven innings of work for Southeastern before
Josh Janway pitched the final two innings for his sixth save.
SFA scored three runs in the seventh inning before loading the bases in the ninth. Garrett Smith hit a two-out blooper down the first base line and was safe at second on a Southeastern throwing error. Loveless drew a walk to load the bases, but Janway got Darren Crabtree to ground out to end the game.
Southeastern stranded 10 runners on base and turned three double plays. The Lions capitalized on seven walks and five hit batters issued by six SFA pitchers.
Oates pitched five innings and scattered seven hits and allowed five runs in his first start of the season. Smith and Coffman had three hits each for SFA, which collected 12 hits in the game and entered the weekend as the league's top hitting team. Haynes went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Lumberjacks.
