No. 23 Lions Host Alcorn State, Alabama In Midweek Contests

Southeastern continues eight-game homestand with non-conference foes

Freshman Brock Hebert has hit safely in his last 12 games
HAMMOND – After taking two of three games against Southland Conference rival Texas-Arlington to open a season-long eight-game homestand, the No. 23-ranked Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to action with a pair of midweek games beginning Tuesday against Alcorn State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. After facing Alcorn State (15-16), Southeastern will host SEC opponent Alabama (21-11) on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. contest. Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.

Fans who have an iPhone or iPod touch can also listen to each game by downloading the free KSLU application to their device.

Southeastern, which moved to No. 23 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll while slipping seven spots to No. 29 in Collegiate Baseball, rallied to claim fourth conference series of the year after falling to UTA, 7-6, on Friday. The Lions snapped a two-game losing streak with an 11-5 win over the Mavs on Saturday before recording a 6-0 shutout in the series finale on Sunday.

True freshman Brock Hebert capped a stellar weekend for the Lions, going 9-for-12 in the UTA series and extending his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games. The former South Terrebonne High product leads Southeastern at the plate with a .371 average and is second on the team with 35 RBI.

Jeff Harkensee (.354-3-24) is next at the plate for the Lions, who are hitting .303 as a team. Justin Boudreaux (.344-8-37), who leads the Lions in home runs, RBI and stolen bases (13), broke out of a 1-for-10 slump on Sunday as he went 3-for-4 against UTA.

Cody Gougler (.336-3-27), Cass Hargis (.324-0-25), Chris Franklin (.314-0-10) and Joe Sparacino (.286-3-9) are next in hitting for the Lions.

Southeastern will send right-hander Josh Janway (2-0, 2.16 ERA) to the mound against Alcorn State, who have lost six of its last eight games after a nine-game winning streak.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday as they will host Alabama for the second time in school history. The teams met in the 2006 season with the Crimson Tide, ranked No. 8 at the time nationally, rallying for a 5-4 win.

Tickets for both games can be purchased by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466 or on-line at www.LionSports.net.
